LSS is the proud winner of the Templeton Freedom Award for Student Outreach by Atlas Foundation USA
LSS now called I, Society & Public Policy
I, Society
& Public Policy is a four-day residential seminar with
an aim to engage young people with social and economic issues
through an understanding of public policy. ISPP provides a
greater understanding of the larger world-society, economy
and the culture-within the classical liberal framework that
emphasises limited government, rule of law, free trade, and
individual rights.
It makes you exercise your grey cells where YOU do the talking; get to know REALITY with your own eyes; watch documentaries; have interactive discussions with experts and chit-chat over coffee and food!
ISPP makes you an informed citizen, challenges your beliefs
& develops critical thinking and makes you a change agent!
Seminar Design
The format of ISPP is interactive
with discussions, working groups, field visits, and documentary
videos followed by group discussions. We start at 9 am and
end at around 11 pm, though most students rarely stop then.
Interactive Talks: by experts and practitioners
in media, academics, research, government, development
sector, and corporate sector
Working groups : Small groups encourage
participation, creativity and expression
Researching Reality Field Exercise :
First hand research on vendors, cycle-rickshaw pullers,
auto wallahs, shop owners, coolies,
construction workers
Documentaries : 3-4 documentaries supplement
lectures and working group exercises with powerful
visuals

A Poem on LSS by P Venkatesh (LSS
June 2005)
Lessons-Space-Self (LSS)
Once upon a week; The summer was at peak.
CCS gave a call; Invited one and all.
To be a resting bird; In a nest called Hamdard.
Topics had flavour; For participants to savour.
Free speech raised a toast; As silence paid the most.
Answers were given to questions unasked; In moments of reason, chaos basked.
And food for thought; That nobody bought.
Buffet was laid to fill tummy; Without missing meals by mummy.
Bottles of water and cups of tea; Gave many reasons for glea.
Documentaries were a visual treat; Finding many bushes to beat.
Talent of participants was shown; As pumpkins were bought in market zone
Scholars House gave room for two; Attached bathroom and AC too.
Group games were the most fun; With ideas on a constant run.
Sangam Vihar we roamed around; Researching reality, fiction we found.
Pics were clicked in all poses; Of pretty faces and royal noses.
A final handshake, a short speech and a certificate; Made our day and sealed our fate.
Some kissed and hugged; Others cried and laughed.
Exchanging numbers and promising to meet; We made the final retreat.
Even the heavens couldn't bear the sight; They broke into tears, it rained that night.
Memories and thoughts we took away; Lived four lifetimes in four day.
A confession that i wish to express - 'If you want three letters to change your life Let those letters be LSS'.
