Here is a chance to attend a unique workshop organized by Centre for Civil Society & IIMC-Delhi 

Research & Documentary Making Workshop

January 27-28, 2006

As part of the Jeevika: South Asian Documentary Festival, CCS and IIMC are organizing this unique workshop to train young people interested to move into documentary making in the basic skills of research and techniques of documentary making.   

Module 1: Research

The first module is designed to provide students with a conceptual roadmap to think systematically and objectively on public policy issues.  The objective of the workshop is to involve the students through rigorous discussion on a common issue and subsequently, evolve a framework of thinking about the issue that will help them during their research on policy issues. 

 The module discusses

ü       Why public policy is important & why we should understand it?

ü       Basic principles of field research

ü       Provide inputs for do’s and don’ts for field research

ü       Various types of research: primary, exploratory and secondary

 Module 2: Documentary-Making

The documentary-making module will provide a basic understanding of the main facets of documentary-making including lighting, camera work, storyboard, scripting and editing.  The participants will experience both the classroom interaction as well practical application. 

 Resource Person: Sanjay Barnela, Moving Images

Sanjay Barnela is a Delhi-based documentary film maker and cameraperson and one of the founder members of the production group Moving Images. While specializing in making films on the environment, he has worked on a range of related issues including women in panchayati raj, wildlife conservation, the politics of water, livelihoods vs conservation and has also filmed a few high altitude mountain climbs in the Himalayas. His films have been screened and awarded at several national and and international film festivals, some notable ones being, Hunting Down Water, River Taming Mantras, Pastoral Politics, Devta Activists & Turf Wars. Hunting Down Water won the Best Documentary award at the Festival du film de Strasbourg, 2004 and Best Editing award at the Miami International Documentary film festival,2004. River Taming Mantras won the award for Best Documentary in the environment category at VATAVARAN 2005 and Turf Wars won the Third Prize in Jeevika Competition 2003 organized by Centre for Civil Society.

Selected participants will have to pay Rs 500 by cash upon confirmation.

The Workshop strength is 40 students.  We would like to encourage those young people (18-25 years) to apply who have a keen interest in pursuing documentary-making in future and are not pursuing a formal film or media course.
