Dr. Shreekant Gupta

Dr. Shreekant Gupta is Advisor, Urban Governance Programme at CCS. He is also Reader at the Delhi School of Economics. Prior to this he was Director of the National Institute of Urban Affairs.He has worked as an environmental economist at the World Bank at Washington DC (1993-95) and headed the Environmental Policy Cell at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi (1995-97). He received his Ph.D in Economics from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1993 and has also been Fulbright Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2001-2002) and Shastri Fellow at Queens University, Canada (summer 2001).


Dr. Gupta has served on several national and international committees on the environment including the Task Force to Evaluate Market-Based Instruments of Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, the Economic Options Committee for the Montreal Protocol of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In addition to numerous research papers and reports he has co-edited " India and Global Climate Change: Perspectives on Economics and Policy from a Developing Country " published by Resources for the Future Press in the US and by Oxford University Press in India. His forthcoming book (with John Adams) is Environmental Policy in India: The Political Economy of Social Choices , Edward Elgar publishers.
