- Nishtha Singhal
(written
on a train to Manipal, Karnataka)
(The Konkan is a coastal strip of Land bounded by the Sahyadri
hills on the east, and Arabian Sea on the West.)
Tunnel
after tunnel,
Nature
breaks free,
Passengers
descend on a window
For
the priceless, yet free spectacle.
Uneven
patchwork of numerous greens
And
a shimmering silver road drawn in between
As
enmeshed foliage lovingly sway
We
drive into a tunnel – hooray!
Stretches
of red and black soil alternate
In
the fields, workers appear like cranes bent,
Mountains
peeping into rivers
Kiss
the reflection of our train.
A
coconut in free fall over a stream
Strikes
to let out a whirlpool
Various
colours colour the viewfinder
And
the waterfall calls our attention away.
Far
in the mountain peaks
As
verticals cleave the horizon
And
clouds begin to vibrate
They
form into words “Konkan Calling”.
