Government policies should not restrict the growth of private schools: Education Minister

In April this year, CCS Education Choice Campaign achieved a major breakthrough with Education Minister of Delhi, Mr. Arvinder Singh Lovely removing the cap on the number licenses given out by the government to open schools.  In an interview [pdf] with CCS, the minister talks of his plans to remove other bureaucratic hurdles that come in the way of setting up of private schools.

Reducing Waste, Fraud and Abuse in Governance

Good governance, globalization and entrepreneurship is India's way out of poverty: US Expert

US-based management and business consultant, Harry G. Harris appraised academicians and the general public on the most effective ways to remove poverty in India at a  seminar on 'Globalization and Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century'. Taking the example of China, he showed how globalization ushered in economic independence and stability and emphasized the need to eliminate corruption and fraud. The seminar was organized by the American Embassy in collaboration with CCS.

Public Eye on Public Services

Representatives of the police department shared space with civil society organisations at panel discussion on "Police in a Democracy: Accountability, Transparency and Effectiveness". Kalyan Mitra, former Principal Director-DG Security; Ajit Joy, UN officer on drugs and crime control and Mandeep S Tiwana, Consultant to Centre for Human Rights Initiative appraised the audience about the loopholes in the current structure of the police department and the reforms required. The event was  part of the CCS Dialogue series "Public Eye on Public Services" held in collaboration with the India International Centre.

 

Developing New Leaders by Awakening Youth 

CCS graduates leading social change

CCS seminar graduates in Ranchi have filed over 200 Right to Information (RTI) applications in the city in collaboration with Dainik Jagran, a local newspaper . Students in Delhi are bringing out a publication on RTI and conducting workshops in schools in collaboration with the British Council. They are also actively participating in the meetings of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). CCS outreach programs are aimed at creating a network of leaders across India to bring about social change.

Liberty & Society Seminar reaches Goa, Delhi, Cochin

Panjim, the capital of Goa has become the latest city to host a Liberty & Society Seminar (LSS), increasing the number of cities covered by the LSS to 22. The seminar which is aimed at introducing new public policy ideas to the Indian youth has so far touched the lives of over 1500 students across the country.

CCS President at the Asia Liberty Forum & Economic Freedom Network

CCS President Parth J Shah was at the 3rd Asia Liberty Forum at Kuala Lumpur on 10 September to network with other think-tanks on ways to spread the ideas economic and political freedom among Asia's intellectual entrepreneurs. The meeting sponsored by the Atlas Economic Research Foundation . It was followed by the 8th Economic Freedom Network Asia Conference organized by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.
